Export-Nicaragua is a collaborative program between INCAE Business School, Michigan State University (MSU) and the Partnership for Food Industry Development (PFID) designed to improve the abilities of small and medium fruit and vegetable producers in areas, such as competitiveness, management and exporting expertise.
Using the “10 Step Road Map To Succeed In Foreign Markets,“ developed by Professor Myron Miller, as a conceptual framework, Export-Nicaragua offers training and advice to participating companies in the areas of finance, strategy, planning, value chains and structure and market intelligence.
Other areas include opportunities assessment, product design, operating infrastructure, process control, standards and regulations, and other related issues. Additionally, the program offers technical field support through a group of top-quality organizations and experts.
Once the abilities of the participating (supply side) companies have been improved, they will be prepared to establish direct links with potential buyers (demand side). This will culminate with their attendance at the most important event in the produce industry, the Fresh Summit International Convention & Exposition. This event is organized by the Produce Marketing Association (PMA) and held in the United States annually.
At the Fresh Summit the participants will have the opportunity to share with potential buyers and clients along the industry’s value chain for four days. Additionally, they will visit port and transportation facilities and hold meetings with representatives from the US Department of Agriculture, intermediaries, wholesalers, and retailers, among others.
