The program "INCAE Digital Nations" (IDN) seeks to improve Central American communities through the use and design of digital tools and methodologies which promote integral and inclusive development. For this to occur, the inhabitants of the region need to develop a more independent attitude regarding problem solving, continuous learning ability, technological fluidity and creativity.
To achieve these changes, CLACDS with support of MIT Media Lab researchers, promotes the establishment of regional, national and community programs which utilize digital tools, such as those designed by Media Lab: LINCOS, Computer Club House and the Learning Independence Network. Furthermore, it stimulates novel projects together with Media Lab researchers, such as the Digital Path program, in the PPP context.
Together with the previous support, networks like the "Network of Trainers for Trainers", are created to seek support for education faculties in the region's universities, organizations and groups linked to education (formal and informal), enabling them to establish joint projects which consider the use of digital tools in the learning process.
The project is structured as a research group within CLACDS, which is advised by an academic committee (comprised of INCAE and MIT professors) and by a donor committee (comprised of INCAE program donors). These committees are responsible for ensuring the quality development of the distinct projects we are creating and the compliance with program objectives.
Alliances in the rest of the region are already being formed. In Nicaragua they soon hope to begin a project with private sector organizations. There is interest in El Salvador in carrying out the Learning Independence Network program, through which the program will begin to extend operations in those countries. In the short term, initiatives will hopefully be established in Guatemala and Honduras.
