F. Sánchez, Fernando
This work analyzes the beginning of the liberal regimes in the five Central American republics and the processes they have undergone in both the political and economic fields. The commitment to democracy -- and to a free market -- in the region is not an isolated occurrence and is not a phenomenon peculiar to the Isthmus. Throughout Latin America this change process is being produced as a consequence of the democratic process and the economic reforms targeted at strengthening the private sector's role. Prior to this combination of democracy and economic opening, great advances in the countries' economic and social development are expected.
