This paper, developed upon special request of the Competitiveness Commission of El Salvador, specifically analyzes the supply of public transportation in that country, stressing bus transportation. Within the sector's organization, particular attention is paid to the public transportation system, the characteristics of transportation companies and the parking area of public transportation units. The institutions involved in the activity and the legal framework regulating the sector are identified, indicating the regulations that result in conflict. Also, the subsidy system, rate setting, route definition, and funding lines are all analyzed. The paper ends with a synthesis of major conclusions.
