| Attracting foreign direct investment to Central American countries has become a growing need in the last few years, driven by the process of economic opening and by the region's insertion into the global economy. However, the task of attracting foreign direct investment to the area has not been carried out in line with a consistent strategy over time, aiming at supplementing scarce domestic saving and containing short-, medium-, and long-term elements. This paper presents a strategic vision to attract investment into Central America and offers a methodological guide containing this vision and showing the region's investment climate, institutional framework and sectors with potential to attract investment to the area. At the end of the document the different institutional alliances favoring investment promotion are discussed.
