A proposed agenda to improve agribusiness competitiveness in Central America, resulting from research and consultation carried out by CLACDS in the five countries of the region, with active participation and cooperation from the Central American ministers of agriculture and other government agencies as well as trade unions, producers, NGOs, specialized institutions, etc. The first part of the paper includes agribusiness vision and objectives and presents strategic planning comprising fast agribusiness development from a regional standpoint. The second part exposes the theoretical frameworks most commonly used in the analysis, including the Competitive Advantage Diamond and Qualitative Leaps in Country Competitiveness Development, both by Professor Michael E. Porter. Later on a summary is made of the most relevant outcomes of the Central America 's diagnosis, and successful agribusiness cases from Chile and California are shown as attainable models for the region. Finally recommended action to attain the vision is listed in two stages: a set of initial measurements (priority agenda) to attain the medium-term vision by year 2010, and the entire package of steps to be taken to attain the final agribusiness vision in Central America by year 2020.
