| This paper studies Central America's competitive future and development potential linkage to the natural environment. It supports the idea that the successful incorporation of environmental factors into the Region's competitive fabric will contribute to a business climate more attractive for foreign investors, align the agricultural and tourism sectors with more valuable markets and offer new and exciting commercial opportunities in climate change markets. An environmental agenda for the region including four key areas: 1) Creation of the correct business climate to stimulate and support foreign investment and trade, 2) Competitve success in the tourism sector, 3) Competitive success in the agricultural sector, and 4) Succesful participation in emerging global climate change markets, is presented to help Central America improve its competitiveness and its environmental sustainability in a mutually reinforcing manner.
