This paper is a meta analysis of the potential negative implications on the environment and human health that Costa Rica may face due to the development of a high-tech electronics cluster. It studies the so called “Intel’s miracle” and aims to propose a series of strategies and recommendations for different stakeholders in order to prevent or minimize the potential implications for the country. The paper studies the most likely shaped of the evolving industrial cluster, the primary materials flows and the main potential environmental and human health concerns and impacts. It ends with a series of recommendations and policy measures for the members of the evolving cluster and other private and public stakeholders.
