This research is part of the CLACDS Ecobanking project the goal of which is to help the Latin American banking sector to keep current about best practices with regard to analysis criteria and environmental management development tools used by the large international banks for taking concrete environmental steps in the functional business areas. This report presents the results obtained by the author at the Corporate Communications and Sustainability Department at Dresdner Bank. It includes basic concepts, theoretical framework, and a definition and conceptual proposal of an Environmental Management System (EMS), along with its features, benefits, and functions. A structural, organizational, and communications proposal is presented to implement the Environmental Management System at Latin American bank entities based on the Dresdner Bank experience. Chapter Seven refers to the ISO 14001 standard and related documents. Lastly, the author's conclusions are presented. This document is available as part of the publication: POLO-CHEVA, D., ROJAS, E.
