The Latin American Center for Competitiveness and Sustainable Development has focused on laying the foundations to improve business climate, assess the competitiveness of regional industry, and develop the Agenda. The Project Centroamérica en el Siglo XXI: Una Agenda para la Competitividad y el Desarrollo Sostenible (Central America in the 21st. Century, Agenda for Competitiveness and Sustainable Development) began in 1995 with support from CLACDS. The Agenda is a technical tool allowing top decision-makers in the public and the private sector to establish, for the very first time, a vision of Central America's positioning in the global economy.

CLACDS has also developed projects in the sustainable development and social area.
