This work presents the results of diverse research projects focused on selecting Central American clusters with high potential for developing world-class competitive advantages. The studies analyze both the internal conditions of companies that affect competitiveness and the determining factors for competitiveness that act from the specific business climate for each cluster. Unlike traditional studies about production sectors, studies centering on clusters as a unit of analysis show that they do not particularly include just those companies belonging to the same industry in a determined geographic location. Instead, they include companies and organizations that provide supplies, services and support to an industry, in effect forming a true corporate conglomerate that must be analyzed together to be able to understand the ways these companies are competitive.
