El Salvador coffee industry is probably the most sustainable in all Central America due to the fact that over 90% of its coffee is shade grown, which is by definition less environmentally impacting. At the same, time coffee producers are finding biological control solutions for pests and weed management and encouraging farmers to diversify their coffee plantations with other crops. Nevertheless, negative environmental effects still result from coffee processing.
