The Sustainability Management Program (SMP) jointly offered by INCAE and InWEnt, unique in Latin America, provides participants with an unmatched opportunity to acquire cutting-edge knowledge in the fields of sustainable development and corporate social responsibility.
The program aims at developing a new generation of leaders to take on top management responsibilities, educating them to deal with urgent development issues from a multidisciplinary, systemic perspective.
SMP participants will have a chance to expand their knowledge base, learn innovative methods, and appreciate their careers from a dynamic point of view. Thus they will clarify attitudes and values impacting their behavior as organizational leaders and will attain a better understanding of the roles they can play by positively influencing the future of both their own countries and the world.
First offered in 2005, the SMP follows the tradition of meticulousness and excellence typical of INCAE’s executive programs.
The SMP consists of an in-depth review of sustainable development including compliance, cleaner production, eco-efficiency, and the concept of advanced sustainable development, together with corporate social responsibility.
International agreements for sustainable development will be examined, as well as the evolution of public policy and strategy design and implementation in the private sector.
Particular attention is paid to the evolution of sustainable development policy tools such as command and control legislation, co-regulation agreements, and the use of economic tools to attain sustainable development.
The program is designed on a sequential, integral fashion to create a close logical relationship between all topics covered. The SMP is divided into three different modules, as follows:
After the 2005 and 2006 programs, with energy policy and water management as their key topics, in 2007 the SMP will focus on funding sustainable development.
Despite the fact that sustainable development has become the cornerstone of development plans in Latin America and that most countries in the region have put in place legal and institutional frameworks in line with this subject, public and private funding programs and mechanisms for sustainable development have conspicuously evolved very slowly. This reflects a lack of leadership, as well as persistent intellectual, political, and financial weakness in relevant public and private organizations.
Thus, together with the theoretical portion of the program, the SMP 2007 will examine and analyze case studies of funding of sustainable development, detailing innovative, successful programs and strategies. The synergy between INCAE and InWEnt allows for collection of worldwide experience, as well as the presence of renowned experts in the field.
In cooperation with world-renowned leaders of sustainable development, INCAE faculty will lead this two-week program including solving real-life case studies of company integration with sustainable development challenges.
All INCAE faculty members have extensive academic experience and most of them hold doctoral degrees from prominent universities in Europe and the United States. Their contributions in the field of sustainable development and corporate social responsibility have expanded knowledge frontiers. They have vast practical experience as a result of having held business and political management positions and having consulted with a large number of industries and different countries around the world.
SMP is intended for leaders playing key roles in designing and implementing sustainable development policies in their companies and organizations such as experts and management staff from the public and the private sector as well as from civil society organizations.
