Participatory Teaching Methodology

The Case Method

As part of the influence of the Harvard Business School, INCAE has employed the case method as its primary teaching methodology ever since it was founded in 1964.

Developed in collaboration with company executives, a case is a document containing all the necessary dimensions so that students can make an in-depth analysis of a situation and suggest alternative courses of action. Because of the way the INCAE program is organized, students analyze a case at least three times: individually, with the support of a study group (which is multinational and multidisciplinary) and with the entire class, under the guidance of a professor. Utilized by professional faculty trained in the methodology, the case method makes it possible to transmit management tools and concepts effectively while simultaneously developing students’ analytical abilities, capacity to communicate, creativity and self-confidence.
