Harry Strachan

Biography

Professor Strachan has had a close relationship with INCAE. He began his academic career in the Managua Campus in 1970 as an assistant professor. Then he was named Academic Director from 1972-1976, when he began his studies at Harvard Business School. In 1981 he came back to INCAE as Rector to help and implement the strategy of building a second campus in Costa Rica. Since that, he has been a Board of Director member, as well as professor in PAG, seminars and MAE curses.

Doctor Strachan has a Doctorate in International Finance, a J.D. in Corporate Law from Harvard Business School. He also has a Business Administration from Wheaton College in Illinois.  He specialized in international finance. He wrote the book "The Role of Family Business Group in Economic Development", and more than 50 cases and business notes in banking, finance, international business and strategy.

Work Experience

He wrote the book The Role of Family Business Group in Economic Development, and more than 50 cases and business notes in banking, finance, international business and strategy.

In 1979, Dr. Strachan joined Bain & Company Boston and was Partner and from 1983 up to the present. His experience at Bain has been in variety of sectors: financial services, retailing & distribution, consumer products & beverages, information services & software, light & heavy industries, airlines, hotels & tourism, medical services & pharmaceuticals, agribusiness, family business strategy and transitions.

He has lived in Costa Rica since 1992. He is a founding partner of Mesoamerica Investments, the leading regional mergers and acquisitions firm with strategic consulting and private equity branches.
