thumb tedx1Nearly 30 speakers from eight different countries lectured on Innovation and Technology, Leadership and Sustainable Development at the second INCAE TEDx. These inspiring lectures were aimed at helping train new leaders for the region. This series of short speeches was organized by INCAE's MBA students and held last January 21 at INCAE's campus in Costa Rica.

The event was streamed live and watched by more than 3,000 people from all over the world. It featured lectures by students, alumni, entrepreneurs and businesspeople eager to share with youth their passion for their ideas and give them a positive message. To do so, they took advantage of this series of independent mini lectures resulting in a local TEDx experience.

"INCAE trains us to be future leaders and entrepreneurs. INCAE's TEDx provides a great opportunity to share with successful people who had an idea and began first dreaming about it and then building it up to make it happen and show us it can be done," said 2017 MBA student Luisa Guzmán, who was in charge of organizing the event.

Carmen Velasco from Bolivia was one of the speakers at the event. Through socio-economic integration programs she has managed to help more than three million women and children throughout Latin America. Other speakers included Nicaraguan fashion designer Shantall Lacayo who has participated in different fashion shows in Latin America; Alexandro Poulias, one of the founders and current president and CEO of Televida Group; and Costa Rican Carlos Peña, who advises public and private institutions in Costa Rica and started a company to help young people enter the business world.

"No career success can make up for failure in personal life," said Alex Poulias. In addition to giving a positive message, he talked about the importance of taking great risks.

Meanwhile Carmen Velasco focused on efforts to help fight and reduce poverty. "Poverty is a flaw in society, its essence is the same everywhere... it is everyone's responsibility to eradicate it," she said.
