INCAE, October 7, 2011. The former president of Switzerland and current member of the Global Commission on Drug Policy, Ruth Dreifuss, met yesterday with the Board of Directors of INCAE Business School and taught a class to first year MBA students.
In the meeting with Board, the former president discussed her views on the Global Commission on Drug Policy, which is formed by world leaders such as Cesar Gaviria, former president of Colombia, Ernesto Zedillo, former president of Mexico, Fernando Henrique Cardoso, former president of Brazil, and Paul Volcker, former Chairman of the Federal Reserve of the United States.
The group presented last June a report calling for "an end to the failed war on drugs, and calls for fundamental reforms of the global regime of Drug Prohibition".
Her discussions with INCAE's board focused on likely security improvements that the region could make through improved drug policy. Dreifuss also gave a talk on the same subject to more than 100 first-year students in the Master of Business Administration (MBA) program.
The former president of Switzerland, considered a highly successful policy reformer in her country, is visiting Costa Rica for a week and has met with representatives and students of the University for Peace (UPEACE), where she is chancellor and member of the Council, and with the Centro Agronómico Tropical de Investigación y Enseñanza (CATIE).
