Octavio Martínez

Biography

Octavio Martínez Argüello is currently the director of the Latin American Center for Competitiveness and Sustainable Development (CLACDS) at INCAE Business School, where he is also a professor of business strategy.

He has worked as a consultant in strategy formulation and implementation for companies in the food and beverage, agribusiness, pharmaceutical, energy, financial, and real estate sectors. Previously, he worked in operations management at Walmart Mexico and Central America.

He received a doctorate degree in Business Strategy from the University of Toronto, Rotman School of Management. He has an MBA (with High Honors) from INCAE Business School and a degree in Industrial Engineering (Cum Laude) from Universidad Americana (UAM). His academic research on vertical integration, contracting, and location strategy of companies has been awarded several times by the Academy of Management, the world’s leading professional association of academics and consultants in business administration. He has been invited to lecture at Harvard University (HBS), the University of Pennsylvania (Wharton), New Yok University (NYU Stern), the Washington University in St Louis (Olin), Instituto de Empresa (IE), Duke University, Boston University, and Pontifical Catholic University of Chile.

Before receiving his doctorate, he worked as a Senior Researcher at INCAE, where he developed a collection of 15 teaching cases used in the Masters and Executive Education programs in Latin America. This collection includes topics of business and financial strategy, competitiveness, marketing and sales in multinational and domestic companies.
