Roy Zúñiga carried out his doctoral studies in Industrial Engineering with a major on Operations Strategy and Systems Dynamics at the Universidad de Valladolid, in Spain, where he graduated Summa cum Laude. Also, he studied Business Management at the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology in England. He holds a M.Phil. Degree in Strategic Simulation and Organizational Learning from the Manchester School of Management, and a M.Sc. Degree in Interdisciplinary Studies and Environmental Management from the University of Oregon, USA. He received his MBA degree and a graduate degree of Functional Management from INCAE, where he graduated with High Distinction. In addition, he holds a Licentiate Degree in Industrial Engineering from the Universidad de Costa Rica. He is an ISO 9000 quality auditor, and he holds an official degree as a Specialist on the Development of Organizational Simulation Models from the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya. He completed management education training programs at Harvard Business School and the London Business School. He received the British Chevening Scholarship Award, the Fulbright Scholarship, and a scholarship from the Agencia Española de Cooperación Internacional.
Since 1997 he teaches at the regular MBA Program, the Executive MBA Program, and the Management Development Program of INCAE. He has led several different projects from INCAE’s Latin American Center for Competitiveness and Sustainable Development (CLACDS), including the studies on the Competitiveness of the Information Technology Cluster in Venezuela and that of Agrotechnology in Ecuador, both implemented through a joint effort of INCAE, Harvard University, and Corporación Andina de Fomento. Other studies include the development of a Medical Device Cluster in Costa Rica, studies on the Coffee Cluster in El Salvador, the Banana Cluster in Costa Rica, the Business Climate of the Central American Textile and Apparel Manufacturing Industry, a Strategic Action Guide for the Costa Rican Milk Sector, and a Strategic Action Guide for Textile Offshore Manufacturing in Honduras.
Dr. Zúñiga has consulted with the World Bank and, prior to dedicating himself to research, teaching, and consulting on organizations and business firms, he served as Advisor to the Costa Rican Industrial Reconversion Program in the industrial sectors of Leather and Footwear, Textiles, Apparel Manufacturing, Food, and Plastics. Also he served as Dean at INCAE, Executive Director for INCAE-Costa Rica, General Manager of a restaurant chain, Process Engineer, Materials Assistant Manager, and Production Manager for the Columbia Broadcasting System plant of Sony Music.
